Hi folks,

I am from England and have been living in Slovenia for a few years. Now I am thinking of moving to Australia.

I have a question about the police checks that you have to do as part of the visa application process.

First of all, what do you call them in slovensko???

And secondly, where do I go? My local police station? Or upravna enota?

Any other advice on how to get this done and whether a notar needs to sign whatever document I am given?

Hello, hello.

You get it at Ministry of Justice (Ministrstvo za pravosodje / Župančičeva 3, 1000 Ljubljana).

Officially they are called "Potrdilo iz kazenske evidence za fizične osebe"

Here is the form:

You take it - personally - to the reception desk of Ministry. Do not forget to put on the form that you would like to get the document in English!!! They usually send it to your address in a couple of days.

I don't suppose you (or anyone) know how long this police check is valid for? I guess it's too soon to do it before I lodge my visa application, right?

Thing is, I am leaving Slovenia next January and I guess there is no way to get this form done from abroad?

It has to be valid the day you enter AUS. Expire date is usually defined by the state or by the institution that requires it. You will find this data on the application form where the list of all needed documents is. In "my times" it was one year.

You'd need someone to pick it up for you. Usually it takes ages and it's not easy.

I'd suggest you order it a couple of weeks before you lodge the application. If it will expire while Immi is working on it they will let you know that you have to provide a fresh one.

Hi,

Amelie, it was like that till May 2011. From then, they issue it only in Slovenian language. You can also send the application by snail mail. It's not necessary to take it personally.

We've done the procedure in June 2011.

Hm, are you sure? Ever since SLO is in EU they have to issue all documents in ENG if you ask them.
